Why did they change the formula - Tastes Bad now July 19, 2010 RAV (MO) I've used the Atkins shakes for years now. But now they taste bad. They taste like a bad diet drink from the 90's. They have a bad after taste, more carbs than the original, made with dairy (milk) protein now instead of soy. There are articles that state soy protein promotes health in many areas (look it up). So why did Atkins go and change the formula? Call them and let them know you're dissatisfied like I did.
I called Atkins (800-6ATKINS) and let them know the taste is no longer any good. They said that they changed the following that may have affected taste:
1) Changed from SOY Protein to Dairy (Milk?) Protein
2) Added more cream (which should have just made it thicker)
3) Changed the cocoa formula - which I'm thinking was the killer
They said they need feedback given for them to know if people like it or not (the new formula) - my response was "not like it". The rep said the reason they changed to milk protein instead of soy protein was due to some feedback from women who wanted dairy.
So everyone call in if you don't like it so they can change it back. I used to look fwd to drinking it, now I can't force myself to drink it.
Its OK as long as it is VERY cold. Better than nothing! July 7, 2010 Read Rover (FL) This is one of those products where you must have reasonable expectations or you will be really disappointed. Amazon classifies a 3 star rating to be "OK" and that is exactly how I feel about these shakes. They are better than nothing. I've used Atkins products and shakes on and off for over a decade and I have to tell you, these chocolate shakes have a purpose but I have never really been happy with their texture or flavor. For Phase 1, I chill these to the point of almost frozen or add a touch of instant coffee. For later phases, I add one or two frozen strawberries to the blender. The Atkins shakes have always tasted a bit powdery to me - I think that's why I only drink them when I can blend them with ice or super-chill them in the fridge. I use them as meal replacements in the morning as I have never been one to be a faithful breakfast eater and the idea of a plate of eggs that early in the day just doesn't appeal to me. I guess if I were to think of them more as recipe ingredients and less as stand-alone meal replacements (which is how they are marketed) I would feel a better about them.
For a night time snack to tame my sweet tooth, I turn to the Atkins brand caramel bars. There are several to choose from and go a long way towards satisfying my cravings.
As a Quentin Tarantino character might say, "This is one tasty shake" October 30, 2009 Joseph P. Menta, Jr. (Philadelphia, PA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I enjoy all the various Atkins shakes, but especially the two or three chocolate-flavored ones. Poured over ice and accompanied by a small handful of macadamia nuts, your snack urge will be completely satisfied with only a minimal addition to your daily carb count. I like the fact that Atkins shakes are sweet but not too sweet (though someone with a particularly strong sweet tooth might be underwhelmed), and thick but not "chalky". Satisfying products like this one make it easy to follow a controlled-carbohydrate approach to eating.
LOVE these...great for breakfast September 28, 2009 eljaydubs (Central New Jersey) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been using these in place of breakfast on my "own" vegetarian low-carb diet (I don't necessarily follow Atkin's or any other diet, I just kind of make my own judgement calls -- lost 20 lbs. in the past 2 months and am 5-10 lbs. away from my goal). These are SO good and remind me of melted chocolate ice cream! I never had the ones in the cans so I can't compare, but I think these are delicious and I can't live without them! I alternate between these and the vanilla shakes, but the chocolate is my favorite.
Another Atkin's goodie: Caramel Double Chocolate Fudge Bar. Who needs "real" junk food when you have this stuff?! =) More than enough to satisfy my chocolate and sweet cravings. It helps if you don't eat other things that have real sugar, because your taste buds will adjust to these and they will get better and better. Now, since I have been strict, if I do sneak a bite of "real" chocolate or something else very sugary, it doesn't taste good at all.
Very Good September 19, 2009 C. Comeaux Can't do without it. Really keeps my weight down and I love the taste. Fast shipping and great packaging.
